🌿 Remembering Mrs. Michelle Bailey 🌿It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Mrs. Michelle Bailey, a beloved teacher, mentor, and environmental steward in The Bahamas.Mrs. Bailey taught at Patrick J. Bethel High School in Abaco, where she inspired generations of students to love science and care for their environment. She has been a part of our Bahamas Awareness of Mangroves (B.A.M.) program—a partnership between the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation and Friends of the Environment—since its very beginning, guiding her students into the mangroves to study and restore these critical ecosystems. Mrs. Bailey played a vital role in shaping the program and inspiring her students along the way. Though she fell just short of celebrating its 10-year anniversary, her impact will always be part of its legacy. She believed in giving her students more than lessons from a textbook. She brought science to life through hands-on learning, sparking curiosity and a love of nature that will last a lifetime. As she once said, “B.A.M. reminds me that I am a scientist and helps the students think and act like scientists.” She lived those words, inspiring generations of students to do the same. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom. Mrs. Bailey was an advocate for the environment, an active leader in Girl Guides, and a driving force in shaping science education across The Bahamas. We are grateful for the many years we shared with her. Her warmth, passion, and dedication touched everyone who knew her, and her legacy will live on in her students, her community, and the mangroves she helped protect. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, students, and the entire community who mourn her loss.Below you will find a few of our favorite photos of Mrs. Bailey, including one in the mangroves during a B.A.M. field trip, and another with Amy Heemsoth, our COO and Director of Education, after our last mangrove planting. ...
