ARTWORK INFORMATION

A descriptive artwork title is essential because it provides context and helps the viewer understand the artist's message. A strong title can make a piece more memorable and clearly link it to the theme.
Describe the materials you used to create your artwork. This can include traditional art supplies such as colored pencils, markers, crayons, pastels, or paint (watercolor, acrylic, or oil). You should also describe the surface you used, such as drawing paper, watercolor paper, canvas, cardboard, or any other 2D material. Please note that only two-dimensional, hand-created artwork is allowed; digital art is not accepted.
Describe the navigation action or decision shown in your artwork.
Explain how it improves safety for people while also protecting marine life, habitats, or ocean ecosystems.
Be sure to describe both the navigation practice and the conservation action illustrated in your artwork. Explain how the navigation decision—such as following navigational aids, using a mooring buoy, slowing down near wildlife, planning a safe route, or another responsible boating practice—helps protect people and the ocean. Your description should clearly connect the navigation action to its positive impact on the ocean. Your description is important; in fact, many past winners of the Challenge stood out because of their strong descriptions. The quality of your description could make the difference between placing third or fourth, or even being selected as a finalist. For more details on how your submission is scored, please review the Grading Rubric in the Contest Rules and Facts.
