Chief Communications Officer

Liz Thompson the Chief Communications Officer at the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation (KSLOF). She is a professional science communicator with nearly 20 years of experience working in marine conservation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from Brown University and a master’s degree in marine affairs and policy from the University of Miami.

Liz began her career at the Marine Conservation Institute, where she worked on establishing new MPAs, protecting endangered species, and sustainable seafood in addition to running outreach and communications. She also worked at Stanford managing communications for the Natural Capital Project, which aims to align economic forces with conservation. Most recently, she worked at Caltech as the editor of the award-winning Techer magazine.

In her current role, Liz writes about the need to protect our marine environment and works to share the Foundation’s findings from the Global Reef Expedition. To aid in this effort, she recently produced the TV series “Our Living Oceans,” now playing on EarthxTV. She also curates content for the Foundation’s digital media streams, works with the press to share stories of our scientific research, and promotes the Foundation’s outreach and education programs around the world.
