The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation pledge to work together to protect the ocean and its biodiversity

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation have reached a momentous agreement to work together to safeguard our oceans. Recognizing their mutual interest in protecting ocean health for current and future generations, the two foundations formalized their partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Third Foundations Dialogue meeting in Monaco. The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and Her Royal Highness Princess Hala bint Khaled bin Sultan.

Organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the Foundations Dialogue Group provides a platform for the philanthropic community to collaborate and work together to move the needle towards ocean conservation. The Third Foundations Dialogue Meeting is being hosted by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort from June 14-16. It provides a unique opportunity for foundations to collaborate and see how they could align their efforts to achieve the bold ambitions of the United Nations Ocean Decade for Sustainable Development, known as the “Ocean Decade.”

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, established by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, has long been at the forefront of environmental preservation. Their tireless efforts span a wide range of fields, including climate change, renewable energies, biodiversity, and water conservation. By raising awareness of the impact of human activities on the natural environment, fostering eco-friendly practices, and supporting exceptional initiatives and innovative solutions, the Foundation aims to create a lasting impact in key areas such as the Mediterranean Basin, the Polar Regions, and in Least Developed Countries.

The Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, founded by Princess Hala’s father, HRH Khaled bin Sultan Al-Saud, stands as a beacon of hope for our oceans. For over two decades, the Living Oceans Foundation has dedicated itself to the protection, conservation, and restoration of marine ecosystems, with a focus on conserving coral reefs and other vulnerable tropical marine ecosystems. Through their combined approach of scientific research, outreach, and education, the Living Oceans Foundation has become a global leader in marine conservation, empowering communities, advancing ocean science, and improving ocean literacy around the world.

The MoU signed between the Living Oceans Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation recognizes the complementary nature of their expertise and the immense potential for collaborating to make a lasting difference in ocean conservation. By joining forces, both organizations aim to amplify their conservation efforts, exchange knowledge, and embark on joint projects that align with their shared objectives and geographical priorities.

Alexandra Dempsey, CEO of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, expressed her excitement about the signed partnership, stating, “With the signing of this MOU, we are embarking on a new era of collaboration, innovation, and collective action. Together with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, we will amplify our efforts to protect and restore our invaluable marine ecosystems, ensuring their sustainability for generations to come.”

Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, emphasized the significance of the partnership, saying, “This alliance highlights the importance of collaboration. By joining forces with the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, we have strengthened our capacity to tackle the urgent challenges facing the world’s ocean  and favour meaningful change together.
