Protecting the Ocean, One Voyage at a Time: Join Our Next Navigate with Care Webinar

The ocean is a shared resource—and a fragile one. Every time a boat sets out to sea, it has the potential to impact marine ecosystems. But it doesn’t have to. With the right knowledge and tools, boaters can reduce their environmental footprint and even become champions for ocean conservation.

Join us for the next installment in our Navigate with Care webinar series, a free online event designed to help mariners, conservationists, and ocean advocates chart a more sustainable course.

Navigate with Care: Environmental Impacts of Boating

Thursday, August 21, 2025
10:00 AM EDT / 4:00 PM CEST

In this webinar, we’ll dive into how boating practices can affect sensitive marine habitats like coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and areas inhabited by marine mammals. You’ll hear from experts on the science behind these impacts—and the simple steps boaters can take to avoid them. From using mooring buoys to interpreting navigational aids, you’ll learn practical strategies that help protect the ocean while keeping you safe on the water.

We’ll also spotlight successful efforts led by the boating community to safeguard marine environments. These stories show that when boaters navigate with care, they don’t just avoid damage—they become stewards of the sea.

This series is part of our broader Navigate with Care campaign, an endorsed Action of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Developed in partnership with the International Foundation for Aids to Navigation (IFAN), the campaign aims to reduce the environmental impacts of boating and promote safe, responsible navigation around the world.

Whether you captain a yacht, paddle a kayak, or simply love the ocean, this webinar is for you. Join us, learn more, and take the pledge to #NavigateWithCare.

Navigate With Care

Navigate with Care is a joint campaign by the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation and the International Foundation for Aids to Navigation. It promotes safe and environmentally responsible navigation practices that protect both people and marine life.

There are certain faces you never forget.

Over the years, hundreds of students have stepped into mangrove forests with us through the Jamaica Awareness of Mangroves in Nature (J.A.M.I.N.) program. I may not always remember every name, but I remember the expressions — the hesitation before stepping into thick mud, the laughter when someone loses a shoe, the look of surprise when they catch that unmistakable sulfur smell rising from the mangrove soil…

World Oceans Day: Protecting the Ecosystems That Protect Us

This World Oceans Day, the global community is being challenged to think differently about the ocean.

The 2026 World Oceans Day theme, “Reimagine: Beyond the World We Know, A New Relationship With Our Ocean,” invites us to recognize that the ocean is not something distant or separate from our lives. It regulates our climate, supports our economies, provides food for billions of people, and sustains the natural systems that make life on Earth possible.

Few places illustrate this connection more clearly than the coastal ecosystems that protect our shores and support marine life. While coral reefs, mangrove forests, and seagrass meadows are often…
