Vote for the People’s Choice Winners of the 2025 Science Without Borders® Challenge!

It’s time to vote for your favorite artwork in the 2025 Science Without Borders® Challenge—help us select the People’s Choice award winners! Hosted by the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, this annual student art contest engages young people in ocean science and conservation through art and raises awareness of important ocean issues around the world.

This year’s theme is “Marine Keystone Species,” and students from over 75 countries submitted artwork highlighting species that play an outsized role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems. From sea otters and corals to parrotfish and sharks, their artwork brings the science of ocean conservation to life.

Now it’s your turn to get involved!

Help us choose the People’s Choice Award winners by voting for your favorite artwork on social media!

How to Vote:

Starting Friday, May 2, visit the Living Oceans Foundation’s social media channels to view all the finalists’ artwork. Artwork will be available for voting on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter/X, as well as our newest social media channels, Threads and Bluesky.

❤️ To cast your vote, “like” your favorite image in each age category. The finalist with the most likes in each age group across all of our social media channels by noon ET on Monday, May 12 will win the People’s Choice Award and a $50 scholarship!

Not only are you supporting the next generation of ocean advocates, but you’ll also get to experience some incredible artwork inspired by nature. These young artists have done an amazing job interpreting this year’s theme—Marine Keystone Species—and their artwork reminds us just how interconnected and fragile our ocean ecosystems are.

Voting in the People’s Choice Award does not affect the outcome of the judged competition. Official winners of the Science Without Borders® Challenge will be selected by a panel of judges based on the artwork’s creativity, originality, and understanding of the theme. The People’s Choice Award is just a fun way for the public to participate and recognize their favorite pieces.

So what are you waiting for?

Visit our Facebook page or find us on Instagram, Twitter/X, Threads, or Bluesky to explore the finalists’ artwork and cast your vote!

Let’s celebrate ocean conservation—and the talented students who are helping spread the message—one like at a time.

Some students I remember for their grades, their quick answers, or a moment that made the whole class laugh. Others I remember for the way they stepped into the mangroves.

Desta was the kind of student who thrived outdoors. While some students hesitated at the edge of the mud, he walked right in. And when he inevitably got stuck — because everyone does — he didn’t get frustrated. He laughed. Covered in mud, holding mangrove propagules in his hands, he embraced the experience fully.

Even then, it was clear that he was connecting with the environment in a way that went beyond the lesson plan…

There are certain faces you never forget.

Over the years, hundreds of students have stepped into mangrove forests with us through the Jamaica Awareness of Mangroves in Nature (J.A.M.I.N.) program. I may not always remember every name, but I remember the expressions — the hesitation before stepping into thick mud, the laughter when someone loses a shoe, the look of surprise when they catch that unmistakable sulfur smell rising from the mangrove soil…
