2020 Science Without Borders® Challenge: Middle School Finalists
Congratulations to the middle school finalists in our 2020 Science Without Borders® Challenge! This international student art competition aims to engage middle students in ocean conservation through art. This year we asked students to illustrate things people can do to help save coral reefs–and boy did they deliver!
"The Being We Hurt" by Brendan Cho, Age 13, United States
“The Being We Hurt” is an illustration of a human face that represents our waters, the ocean. The painting illustrates what we have polluted, these animals are hurt in their homes because our methods of disposal have led us into this crisis. The coral on the chin of the head is not harmed with any of this pollution but what has begun will not stop but only continue to conquer the oceans unless we take actions. Taking action is a general phrase, in terms, it is to conserve our coral reefs, a sanctuary for these organisms. The coral’s vibrant color is all we have left in our murky waters. Our oceans are being consumed by our waste, these vibrant coral reefs are all that stand of our once beloved ocean. We will be compelled to lifeless waters if our actions are not taken into consideration of our being.
