🌿🎉 Celebrating Open Day in Jamaica with J.A.M.I.N.! 🎉🌿We had an incredible time at the Open Day event hosted by our partners at the Alligator Head Foundation! The atmosphere was electric with a live radio broadcast from Stylz 96 FM, professional dancers, and a bustling local farmer’s market. We showcased our Jamaica Awareness of Mangroves in Nature (J.A.M.I.N.) program, featuring an interactive display of mangrove propagules and a fascinating food web activity. The real stars of the show were the live marine organisms we brought, including corals, anemones, and starfish. Community members of all ages, from nursery school kids to elders, were captivated by these amazing creatures. A special shoutout to the elementary students who enthusiastically joined us for a spontaneous mangrove tour and brought back a cup full of hermit crabs!Thank you to Alligator Head Foundation, The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean, the Forestry Department, The University of the West Indies, the National Fisheries Authority, and all other participating organizations for making this event a huge success!Learn more about our participation in this amazing event in our latest blog: https://www.livingoceansfoundation.org/open-day-jamaica-the-magic-of-mangrove-education/ ... 🌿📚 Measuring Our Impact: Insights from our Mangrove Conservation & Restoration Programs! 📚🌿 Throughout the B.A.M. and J.A.M.I.N. programs, we survey students at three different stages of the mangrove education and restoration process. This helps us understand how much they know about mangroves and their attitudes toward them before and during the programs. By tracking their progress, we can see if our education programs are effective, how much knowledge is retained, and whether their attitudes and actions change over time. In the final survey, we ask students for feedback on the program. We want to know how we can improve, what their favorite part was, and what they learned from participating. One of the best parts of our year is hearing what they had to say. 💬 Here are some of their heartfelt responses: "I liked visiting the mangroves and being able to see what I was looking at in person. Physically interacting with the environment is more fun and engaging!" – Kailey Sweeting, Forest Heights Academy "I learned that you have to protect mangroves for future generations." – Rudolph Burrows, Patrick J. Bethel High School "My favorite part of the project was watching my mangroves grow and blossom with leaves. Mangroves go through a longer growth process than I thought. I also like visiting the mangroves." – Tyquanya Albury, Patrick J. Bethel High School ✨ Explore more about how we measure our impact and see more student feedback in our latest blog: https://www.livingoceansfoundation.org/2023-2024-b-a-m-student-voices/ Thanks to local partners, Friends of the Environment, for making our B.A.M. program possible! ...
