Gideon Butler

Coral Surveyor

Bio

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Gideon received his B.S. in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution from UC San Diego in 2014. He is currently pursuing a Master's of Biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography where he is examining how human activity impacts coral community dynamics in the Northern Line Islands. Gideon has been involved with research in the Central Pacific, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Southern California.

My passion is the study of biological systems and understanding how individual components affect the whole. In the future I would like to apply that systemic understanding towards improving conservation and management of reefs. I'm very excited to be part of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation.
