Uli Siebeck, PhD

Senior Research Fellow

Bio

Following an undergraduate degree in Animal Physiology and a Masters at the Max-Planck Institute for biological Cybernetics (Tubingen, Germany), Ulrike joined the Vision Touch and Hearing Research Centre (University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia) in 1998 to work on the visual system and visual communication of coral reef fish. She was awarded her PhD in 2002 and has since established the Laboratory for Visual Neuroethology at the School of Biomedical Sciences (University of Queensland). Her key research projects span various fields and focus on "secret communication" using ultraviolet signals, the effects of potentially harmful UV radiation on fish skin, learning and cognition in a fish as well as general fish ecology. Since 2014, Dr. Siebeck has also been involved with the Catlin Seaview Survey. As a member of the Catlin Seaview Survey Shallow Water Team, Ulrike will be leading research on fish abundance and diversity with the aim to "ground truth" and evaluate the Catlin Seaview Survey imagery and methodology for collecting fish data.
